We have relied heavily on Kainos to guide and handhold us through the maze of document management technologies and processes

- Freedom of Information, compliance, improved efficiency and service levels are driving a growing number of eDRM projects in UK local councils; Kainos emerges as partner of choice -

London, February 9th , 2009 – Kainos, ( a leading IT consulting company, has today announced that a growing number of UK councils are relying on its specialist electronic Document & Records Management (eDRM) systems expertise with six councils joining the fold since 2008.

The impetus behind the growth in eDRM solutions across UK councils is being driven by Government initiatives such as complying with the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, increasing information accessibility and visibility to the public, putting information on-line to free up specialist resource and to improve public service levels. Further driving the take up is an aim to reduce reliance on paper and increase councils’ efficiency and productivity.

So far six councils including Havant, South Lanarkshire, Harlow and North Somerset have selected Kainos as their partner to deliver their EDRM projects.

Havant Council is responding to the growing Government mandate to increase efficiency and service levels and has embarked on an electronic records and document management programme that is being managed, implemented and delivered by Kainos. The project uses data capture technology from Kofax, records management software from Meridio and a workflow system from K2. The technology is being rolled out service by service, starting with the Environmental Services division which went live 3 months ago.

“We have relied heavily on Kainos to guide and handhold us through the maze of document management technologies and processes and they have excelled throughout,” commented Ross Morley, Smart info Data (SID) programme manager at Havant Council. “The Kainos team is very knowledgeable and experienced in records and document management but it is their refreshing approach to knowledge and skills transfer that is most notable. That coupled with an unfaltering keenness to open dialogue with third parties and proactively encourage and handle integration where necessary.”

Kainos shares close working relationships with a number of document technology vendors including Microsoft’s SharePoint, Autonomy Records Management and data capture from Kofax. With a highly referenceable base of customers across public and private sector companies, Kainos is developing an unrivalled authority in delivering high quality EDRM projects with an outstanding training and skills transfer reputation.

Commenting on this positive take-up amongst UK councils, Deirdre O’Neill, delivery manager at Kainos said, “There is a significant demand for EDRM technologies in local government and the benefits and return on investment are very realisable, as is clearly demonstrated by Havant. We are delighted to have established such a strong foothold in this important market in such a short timeframe and we look forward to building on this momentum in 2009.”
