Free Scan of Consumer PC to Check for Threats on ‘Safer Internet Day’
Bracknell, UK, 10 February, 2009 - Webroot, a leading provider of security software for the consumer, enterprise and SME markets, is supporting “Safer Internet Day” with an invitation to all online consumers to visit its Web site for a free security scan of their PC.
Safer Internet Day takes place each year in February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world. During the event, a wide array of activities takes place across Europe, ranging from workshops for children to rock concerts and seminars for educators and parents.
“As we acknowledge ‘Safer Internet Day’, we encourage users to get in the habit of thinking about security when surfing online,” said Paul Lipman, senior vice president and general manager of Webroot’s Desktop Business Unit. “This is particularly critical given the continued growth we’ve observed in the volume of online threats. For example, in 2008, Webroot Threat Research tracked a 44.5 percent increase in the number of Internet threats as compared to the volume we saw in 2007.”
To help Internet users ensure the safety of their PC and private information, Webroot is offering a free computer scan to check for spyware, viruses and other threatening forms of malware. Consumers can download the scanner simply by visiting http://www.webroot.co.uk/En_GB/consumer-downloads.html.
