Cinema-goers and film fans around the world are likely to be counting down to Roma Independent Film Festival, which takes place in the Italian capital next month.

Described by its organisers as Rome's first independent and international film festival, the event lasts a total of seven days and aims to celebrate the best in new European and international independent movies.

"As well as offering the chance for young film-makers to present their work to the general public at film screenings, Roma Independent Film Festival offers a series of special events designed to stimulate enthusiasm and create discussion," organisers say.

Film-makers are set to compete for a grand prize of €50,000, ensuring the documentaries, shorts and animations on show are of the highest calibre.

Previous winners have included Marko Kostic's The Paper Prince, The Greatest Silence: Rape In The Congo by Lisa F Jackson and Chi Nasce Tondo by Alessandro Valori.

The festival will take place at the Nuovo Cinema Aquila, located in the Pigneto neighbourhood, which is easily accessible to those staying in central Rome hotels.

The festival runs from March 19th - 27th, with more information about tickets and pricing set to be announced closer to the event.
