Jim Clark Remembered In A Unique Event For Classic Cars
- Hockenheim in Germany to Duns in Scotland round the Jim Clark circuits
May 17th to 24th 2009
A unique event, designed to commemorate the life and races of the much loved and missed F1 star, Jim Clark, is taking place from Hockenheim in Germany to Duns in Scotland on May 17 to 24, 2009.
Open to all cars of the Jim Clark era, it will visit the Nurburgring Nordschleife, Spa, Reims circuit, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park where participants will have the opportunity to lap most of the tracks. Once in Scotland the event takes on a different hue with cars having the chance to drive the Duns Super Special Stage as well as a number of other closed road stages.
The Rally, which is part of the main Jim Clark Rally for modern vehicles running on closed roads in the borders around Duns, is part of a development plan to increase the appeal of the event.
Commenting on the classic rally, organiser, John Brigden, said, “It is a unique rally in combining the delights of a touring event with the opportunity to run on closed road stages, particularly the Duns Super Special through the town. With closed road stages now virtually extinct in the UK, this is a great opportunity for anyone with a classic car to experience this type of event.
Starting in Hockenheim at the Jim Clark Memorial participants will visit scenes of his glory days, including the Nurburgring, Spa, Reims, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park before heading for Duns. Hotel accommodation will be the best available, including staying at the luxurious Roxburghe Hotel near Duns for two nights.
