Villa Antiparos Windmill, Greece

Judging from requests so far this season, The Villa Book reports a prevailing mood of people not wanting to travel too far afield

Having experienced the coldest winter for many years, and a daily barrage of depressing news, it is not surprising, now that the days are getting longer, many are already looking ahead to summer holidays. Judging from requests so far this season, The Villa Book reports a prevailing mood of people not wanting to travel too far afield, and an increasing demand for villas in Europe by the sea. With some new and exciting additions for the 2009 season, The Villa Book offers some truly unique and exclusive coastal hideaways on Mediterranean islands.

One of The Villa Book’s newest and most popular island destinations for 2009 is Croatia, or more specifically, the islands of Brac and Vis. All the properties featured here are right on the coast, with direct sea access , and offer total privacy in idyllically peaceful surroundings. For example, Folie à Deux, a 5 bedroom villa at Duboka Bay on Brac, has stunning sea views from its several terraces, one with small pool. The property offers kayaks, boat mooring and a swimming platform on the rocks, and numerous other water based activities are available close at hand. The small traditional fishing village of Milna, nearby, has a daily market, which includes fresh fish, local olive oil and wine, as well as a good selection of open air cafés and restaurants. For all bookings made before the end of March, The Villa Book is offering a 5% discount on the high season price of £4260 per week, and a complimentary traditional Dalmatian meal on arrival.

New additions to The Villa Book’s ever-expanding Greek programme, include Villa Gerani, in Crete. This 5 bedroom architect-designed villa sits in beautiful hillside location, surrounded by olive groves, close to the coast and the town of Chania. Very well furnished and equipped, the property also has two swimming pools, one especially for children. With a rental price of just £3150 per week in high season, this villa offers all the ingredients for a peaceful and relaxing holiday, as well as real value for money.

On the Greek island of Santorini, The Villa Book has recently added a collection of 8 delightful new villas ranging from the charming Oia White and Oia Blue, both ideal for honeymoons to the sophisticated and stylish Pyrgos White. Perched right on edge of the Caldera, Oia White and Oia Blue are two nearly identical small ‘sugar-cube’ cave houses, each sleeping 2 people. Prices range from £1785 to £2485 per week, and a minimum 3 nights stay is possible.

Pyrgos White is a beautifully renovated old winery, sleeping 8, a peaceful, zen-like retreat, again with incredible caldera views. The villa is a perfect fusion of indoor/outdoor living with the rooms opening up to terraces, including a courtyard with heated Jacuzzi and an upper terrace with plunge pool. The rental price ranges from £4200 to £5600 per week, and minimum stays of 3 nights are possible. At the Santorini villas a complimentary car rental is included in the price.

Another picturesque and unusual retreat on offer this summer by The Villa Book is Antiparos Windmill, on the small island of Antiparos, separated from its larger neighbour Paros, by a narrow channel. This property, situated right on the edge of the sea, consists of a three storey villa and a windmill, connected by a huge terrace with sea-water swimming pool. There are wonderful sea views from the various terraces and balconies at every level with areas for relaxing with a morning coffee, an evening drink or candlelit dinner under the stars. The price for the privilege of staying in this romantic and evocative villa which can accommodate up to 14 people, ranges from £8260 to £10,780 per week.

Other Villa Book island destinations in Europe include the Greek Islands of Mykonos, Hydra, Zakynthos, Corfu, Kea, Samos, Rhodes and Lesvos, the Italian islands of Sicily, the Lipari Islands, Capri, Ischia and Sardinia, the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, as well as Corsica and Gozo.
