US Department of Defense chooses DATIX patient safety event
reporting software

Datix Ltd has been awarded a contract by the United States Department of Defense for the deployment of its software in the Military Health System, one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States, serving active duty and retired service members and their dependents. The Patient Safety Reporting project will roll out Datix software to Military Treatment Facilities worldwide.

The Department of Defense (DoD) evaluated leading patient safety reporting software from suppliers in the US and other countries. A rigorous competitive selection exercise resulted in the DoD choosing Datix as the software which best met its core requirements for a web-based solution and a complete patient safety taxonomy.

Another factor in the DoD’s choice of Datix was the company’s prior experience in implementing large-scale patient safety reporting solutions. As well as covering 75% of the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, a single Datix system meets the needs of the Patient Safety Learning System for the Canadian Province of British Columbia. This demonstrated that Datix was able to meet the DoD’s requirements for a large number of users and also provides an opportunity for the DoD to share experience with another similarly sized implementation.

Jonathan Hazan, Joint Managing Director of Datix said, “We are delighted that the Department of Defense has selected Datix. This decision confirms our position as the leading global supplier of patient safety software and demonstrates the ability of Datix to scale up to the level required to support a complex and extensive healthcare system. We look forward to working with the DoD.”

A limited deployment of Datix software will take place at nine Military Treatment Facilities in late 2009, followed by a decision to proceed to full deployment in 2010.

Systems integration and training will be carried out by Northrop Grumman Corporation under a separate contract.

Datix is a global supplier of software for patient safety, risk management, incident and adverse event reporting. Founded in 1986, Datix has over 400 customers, which includes more than three quarters of the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, major implementations in Canada. Datix is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
