27 million MOTs were carried out last year on class 4 cars*, with a quarter of Brits failing for ‘simple and avoidable’ reasons, according to experts.
Of the 27 million MOTs carried out between April 2007 and March 2008, 35%, or just fewer than 10 million failed first time. The main reason for failure was defined as ‘lighting’, with 19%, or nearly 2 million of all first time failures associated with poorly performing headlights, which experts argue can be fixed or replaced ‘simply’ by the vehicle owner themselves.
Experts at motor company www.Nulon-UK.com were astonished to find that a further 5.6% of failures were attributed to exhaust emissions exceeding permissible levels. Further investigations show that motorists end up with large mechanical repair bills, often relating to an engine strip down and "de-coke" to remove built up engine deposits and improve fuel and oil efficiency.
Given that these repairs vary in price from garage to garage, and with re-test fess applied in some cases and not in others, the only fact that is clear is that Brits are spending millions of pounds on MOT failures that could have been prevented, without incurring garage labour costs.
In reaction to these statistics and to help save motorists money on costly repair bills and potential MOT retest fees, Nulon UK has introduced MOT Assist to the UK from Australia where it is a market-leading duo of Fuel and Oil Treatments that, when used as directed in advance of an MOT Test, will effectively remove internal deposits and reduce oil burning and smoke, thereby dramatically increasing the chances of passing the MOT Emissions Test.
William Findlay, CEO of Nulon UK commented,
“As people hold onto their cars longer and, sadly, pay less attention and spend less money on routine maintenance, the chances of their car passing an MOT first time decreases, as referenced by publicly available stats from VOSA, where just 5 years ago, MOT failures were 6% lower."
“It’s a fact that millions of Brits are failing their MOTs for simple and entirely avoidable reasons. A fifth of cars fail the MOT first time for lighting, an issue that could be potentially fixed by the owner, rather than incurring labour charges."
“One of the by-products of a lack of maintenance is increased emissions as carbon, un-burnt fuel and oil deposits build up inside the engine. This cocktail of residue has the knock-on effect of reducing fuel and oil efficiency thereby negatively impacting exhaust emissions. Under normal circumstances, you are potentially faced with a very large mechanical repair bill to have the engine stripped and "de-coked" to rectify the problem. Nulon MOT Assist has been designed to effectively treat these issues and significantly reduce the need for such costly repairs, thereby saving motorists hard earned cash".
