Considered by many to be the biggest exhibition in the city's design calendar, Milan's Salone Internazionale del Mobile event is due to take place next month.

Showcasing work by some of the most important and influential figures in the world of design, the event attracts a wide array of exhibitors and visitors.

Now in its 48th year, Salone Internazionale del Mobile has attracted a number of other exhibitions and associated events, which take place in and around the city, meaning those staying in Milan hotels next month will have plenty to keep them occupied.

For example, SaloneSatellite is one of the many fringe events which takes place and provides people visiting the city the chance to browse the wide array of home furnishings and other goods on display, as well as the opportunity to pick up a few bargains.

Tickets for the showcase vary in price according to how many times the main event is visited. A single entry card can be purchased for €20 (£18.46), while a double-entry pass will set visitors back €40. Visitors can enter six times for €52.

Reduced permits are available for students.

Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2009 takes place at the Milan Fairgrounds between April 22nd and 27th.
