This challenge is not only a great way of raising funds for charity, it is also personally satisfying and can really be life changing

17 March 2009

Classic Tours, the creator of charity challenges, is running a special long weekend event in the Southern Alps for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) from 27 to 31 August this year, to raise money for the two million people in the UK with sight problems.

Getting fit is often a big motivation for people joining one of these events and several supports of RNIB have lost a lot of weight getting fit these events. Because of a tough training regime combined with the motivating goal of the trek, friends Tracey Fluckiger, who is partially sighted, and Denise Gardiner each lost two and a half stone prior to trekking to India last year for RNIB.

This challenging trek through the Vallouise Valley of the Southern Alps will visit areas not normally frequented by tourists, to the land of the chamois, wild goats and golden eagles. The trek will wind through mountains with five to seven hours trekking a day, passing glaciers, lakes and a lost ‘glen’. Not a ski lift in sight!

Celebrity Christine Hamilton, a supporter of RNIB says; ”Come on, get up out of your chair, turn off the telly and grab the challenge of a lifetime! Join the party trekking through the glorious Southern Alps and raise funds for RNIB at the same time. This challenge is not only a great way of raising funds for charity, it is also personally satisfying and can really be life changing.”
