Milli-grip 32 in action.

Unique award-winning British invention at Ideal Home Exhibition (March 20 - April 13, Stand 1N57, Home Improvements section)

WHEN Alistair Darling, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, was pictured holding British products in the Sunday Times one item featured more prominently than the rest.

The Milli-grip spanner, from HTM Products Ltd of Sussex, has become the essential adjustable, lockable spanner for every DIY enthusiast’s toolkit . . . and the professionals are finding this simple-to-use tool indispensable in their armoury. It is a complete range of millimetre spanners in one tool – fitting nuts and bolts quickly and precisely without losing any grip . . . a whole box of open-ended spanners in a single tool.

In an easy one-handed operation the Milli-grip adjusts in a fraction of the time it takes to open and close the old-fashioned adjustable spanner.

This unique tool is the brainchild of retired college lecturer Ian Harrison, who was working on the exhaust of his car when his adjustable spanner slipped. On seeing his grazed and bleeding knuckles, his wife said: ”Why don’t you invent one that won’t slip”? And that’s just what he did.

The revolutionary spanner is now being marketed on the worldwide stage by colleague Andy Manuel, who masterminds the Milli-grip operation from their base in Henfield, West Sussex.

The Milli-grip has won gold medals at the British Invention Shows of 2006 and 2007 for ‘Product Design’ and ‘Innovation’. It will be on show at the Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court (March 20-April 13, Stand 1N57 – ¬¬- Home Improvements section)
“The Milli-grip has proved immensely popular among both amateurs and professionals,” says Andy, an experienced engineer himself.
The Milli-grip rivals, and outstrips, traditional adjustable spanners, which slip and slide - causing grazed knuckles and frayed tempers. None can boast the unique ratchet system which keeps the Milli-grip firmly locked on to a nut or bolt - nor does it need a battery.

“Like most good ideas this is a simple one – but one which we have launched into the marketplace with growing success,” says Andy.

HTM Products Ltd - now trading as - has both the European and US patents for the spanner, with applications pending in several other countries.

A UK network of distributors and retailers is growing, but end-users can buy direct from the website:

The Milli-grip has been fine-tuned through various prototypes to become a Great British product.

It is an ideal tool for all those DIY jobs around the home as well as for boats, bikes, cars and caravans. The professionals – builders, plumbers and electricians – have also given it the thumbs-up.
Adjustable spanners have been redefined in the all-purpose Milli-grip.

THE MILLI-GRIP is an adjustable spanner that fits metric nuts and bolts from 2mm through to 32mm, in 1mm increments exactly.

With its revolutionary ratchet system, it eliminates the slippage problems inherent in the traditional worm-gear design. In an easy, one-handed operation the Milli-grip adjusts to a precise fit in a fraction of the time it takes to open and close the old-fashioned adjustable spanner.
Designed for both right and left-handed users, once locked on to the required nut or bolt, it cannot alter its setting during use.

Made from chrome vanadium, case hardened and finished in chemical black with a non-slip TPR (thermoplastic rubber) handle, the Milli-grip is a quality tool. No more slippage, no more damaged nuts or bolts, no more damage to knuckles!
