Green office expert Lara Conaway will be putting forward the case for converting the UK’s ageing office stock into sustainable workplaces of the future at the annual BIFM conference.
Lara, sustainability manager at Morgan Lovell, is a guest speaker at the event, taking place on Wednesday, April 1.
In her talk ‘Expensive Green Offices and How To Avoid Them,’ Lara will draw on her own experiences gained as an influential member of the Morgan Lovell team behind the award-winning green refurbishment of the company’s 1960s Soho headquarters.
Against the odds, the office – located in the type of building that would have been considered an environmental write-off - secured a BREEAM Excellent rating and took a range of accolades throughout 2008 for its pioneering work, including a Highly Commended award at the BIFM FM Excellence awards.
Lara said: “Many companies have in the past looked to move when faced with the task of updating an ageing office environment to 21st century specifications.
“To realistically create more cost-effective, green offices, we need to make better use of the reuse concept of sustainability and convert the building stock we already have in a more environmentally friendly manner.”
Lara speaks at The Green Office session, between 12.00 noon and 12.45pm, at the BIFM conference, taking place at Keble College, Oxford.
Advice on choosing green buildings, ways of cutting costs through sustainable activities, and case study examples of low carbon offices already saving money, will all be highlighted in her presentation.
