WITH the number of part-time workers countrywide on the rise, a leading recruitment consultancy has highlighted the importance of the role of contract staff to employers looking to manage their overheads and keep pace with peaks and troughs.

The number of part-time employees across the UK rose by 33,000 in the three months to December last year, according to business adviser BDO Stoy Hayward.

Leading recruitment consultancy ATA Selection (should this be selection, recruitment or verticals – we it be easiest to chose one and brand from that perspective?), says contract staff can prove just as effective as permanent workers and offers an attractive solution to employers seeking to maintain their levels of service whilst at the same time enabling them to manage headcount and costs in line with current workload.

Andrew Hardaker, Managing Director, ATA Selection said: "It is true that these are tough economic times which inevitably will give rise to times of both feast and famine within businesses.

"Therefore the role of contract workers, often on short fixed-term contracts, cannot be underestimated and they form an important and increasingly essential part of the workforce.

"By the same token staff in positions who face losing their jobs should look to contract work as a viable alternative and a good way to keep in work. It is a much-valued mode of employment and one which a number of employers benefit in terms of the flexibility it offers.”

ATA Selection is one of the UK's leading recruitment specialists, with 45 years of experience. It has 10 branches throughout the UK and handles more than 300 new vacancies every week.

It can provide a complete recruitment service to clients, whether they are looking for permanent or fixed contract/temporary staff.
