If you want to get ahead, get a cycle

Women are different to men – no surprise there, so why do we expect a ‘one-size-fits all’ approach to achieving success and fulfillment?

Miranda Gray, Creative Director and women’s course facilitator, launches an innovative approach to women creating success in her new book ‘The Optimized Woman. Using the menstrual cycle to achieve success and fulfillment’.

In this time of economic crisis, more than ever women need to find an edge to get ahead, to create the life they want and to generate well-being and fulfillment. That edge is the menstrual cycle. Long seen as an inconvenience, disruptive and a potential cause of absenteeism, this view of the menstrual cycle needs to be radically modernized to become a positive resource of success tools for women.

The menstrual cycle consists of Optimum Times – days of heightened skills and abilities which occur each month. These are days where women are more able to excel at certain tasks and have particular aptitudes and skillsets. At these times they are motivated in different ways and define success according to different criteria.

For example the Optimum Time for:

• rational thinking, starting projects, mental clarity and planning is the pre-ovulatory phase around days 7–13.

• heightened skills in mentoring, communication, mediation, and teambuilding and customer support is the ovulation phase around days 14–20.

• excellent critical analysis skills, problem identification abilities and heightened inspirational blue-sky thinking processes is the pre-menstrual phase around days 21-28.

• core value assessment, identifying clear direction, goals and needs, and unemotional reviewing is the menstrual phase occurring around days 1-6.

Miranda says “When we match the task to the appropriate Optimum Time we have the ability to excel at the task, to be more efficient and effective in a wider skill set, to feel that our needs are met, and to generate feelings of contentment and fulfillment. We can apply this key understanding practically to our home life, relationships, work environment, careers and to our personal dreams and goals.”

Illustrated by comments from women about the effect of their menstrual cycle on their lives and the positive effects of the concepts contained in the book, The Optimized Woman outlines a 28 day plan of practical activities that can be applied to the areas of work enhancement, goal fulfillment and well-being.

Miranda takes these concepts further in her mentored online women’s menstrual cycle life-coaching course which is tailored to the student’s individual cycle. The course is designed for women wishing to understand and use their Optimum Times to achieve success, and for female trainers, managers and counselors who want to understand in more depth how the concepts can be applied practically.

Miranda suggests that by not allowing women to reach their full potential in the workplace businesses are losing out on possibly the biggest resource they have to get ahead of the competition. Understanding that women’s success and the menstrual cycle go hand-in-hand is the first step towards overturning the primitive menstrual cycle taboo and bringing it firmly into the mainstream world of home, work and goal achievement, where it belongs.
