Luminaries from Yahoo!, RedMonk, and The Apache Software Foundation to Keynote at ApacheCon Europe 2009 in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – 20 March, 2009 – ApacheCon Europe 2009, the official user conference, trainings, and expo of The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), has announced Open Source industry experts from Yahoo!, RedMonk, and the ASF as keynote speakers 25-27 March 2009 at the Mövenpick Hotel in Amsterdam.

ApacheCon will help ASF software users, engage individuals interested in the development of ASF projects, provide insight and knowledge to anyone interested in the business and technology of Open Source software.

Keynotes will address the founding of The Apache Software Foundation, the cloud computing revolution and how to overcome the technical challenges it represents, and an analyst's insight into how Open Source is driving the distribution of knowledge.

Keynote - 25 March: Data Management in the Cloud – Raghu Ramakrishnan, Chief Scientist for Audience and Cloud Computing, and Research Fellow at Yahoo!

As the amount of data in organisations has been increasing, so have costs for securing, administering and provisioning. Ramakrishnan will discuss the technical challenges involved in designing hosted, multi-tenanted data management systems and Yahoo!’s vision of cloud computing.

Keynote - 26 March: Open Sourcing The Analyst Business – Turning Proprietary Knowledge Inside Out. Or... How and Why We Became OSI-Compliant – James Governor, Analyst and Founder of RedMonk

RedMonk grew its business by applying Open Source ideas to the delivery of knowledge. Governor will present on the changing analyst landscape, the move to service models, licensing issues, Internet collaboration and how RedMonk thrived by embracing open source technology’s ideals and approaches.

27 March: Apache Pioneers’ Panel – 10 Years of The Apache Software Foundation
Moderated by Danese Cooper, ASF Member; board member of the Open Source Initiative – Panelists include Lars Eilebrecht, Dirk-Willem van Gulik, Jim Jagielski, Sally Khudairi, and Cliff Skolnick.

Started a decade ago by a few devotees who wanted to standardise collaboration on the Web server that drives the Internet, the ASF has grown tremendously to become one of the foremost organizations in software. Some of the Foundation’s pioneering Members will present stories of the organization’s early days.

The above keynote addresses will be streamed live from the ApacheCon Website free of charge, and will be made available to the general public following the event.
