The findings of the Digital Inclusion Index will have particular relevance to anyone interested in the development of the global knowledge economy

London, UK

Global risks specialist, Maplecroft, has created a new map and index of Digital Inclusion. The map covers 183 countries and will allow businesses and organisations to carry out direct comparisons of digital opportunity levels on a national and regional basis.

The Digital Inclusion map, available at www.global-risks.com, reveals a global snapshot of access to personal computers (PCs), internet and broadband, fixed telephone lines and numbers of mobile subscribers.

Ed Cole, Founding Director of Maplecroft said; “The findings of the Digital Inclusion Index will have particular relevance to anyone interested in the development of the global knowledge economy.”

G20 members, India and Indonesia, were both ranked in the extreme risk category for lack of access to information and communication technology (ICT), which adversely affects the ability of citizens to access information and electronic resources for development.

Even in a country considered to be at the forefront of software engineering only 6.92 out of a 100 individuals in India subscribes to the internet compared to 72 in the United Kingdom.
