Tixdaq.com, the UK’s leading live entertainment ticket listing service, has today announced an agreement to acquire the three websites operated by Sportbuzz Limited, that include the leading user generated sport magazine site Sportingo, and the leading football blog Caught Offside, as well as the premier online directory of online sport video Get Sport. These sites generate 1m visits every month.
Sportingo is a global online sportswriters’ community written exclusively by sports fans. Sportingo places the user at the heart of the experience allowing budding sportswriters and armchair pundits a unique opportunity to submit their articles and see them professionally edited and posted online as reports, features and editorials. 3000 writers have already signed up and posted articles on the site.
Caught Offside was originally set up as a football news site, and has quickly become a hotbed for football gossip and latest transfer rumours. Caughtoffside brings the news to readers with an irreverent and humorous tone that complements the more serious articles on Sportingo, and provides a fun place for rival supporters to banter with each other just as they do in real life.
Get Sport tracks the teams, matches and tournaments fans wish to follow online across a huge range of sports including football, tennis, cricket, rugby, motorsport and ice-hockey. Sports fans can find out where to watch events live online, access highlights, video-on-demand and great clips. Save Event reminders to Outlook, and recommend events to friends.
Steve Machin, EVP Tixdaq, said of the deal “We are thrilled to be working with such vibrant sites. In the same way that Tixdaq has helped to simplify the ticketing space, Sportingo has used the social internet to democratise sports journalism. Tixdaq makes it easy for fans to compare over 3 million tickets for sports, concerts and theatre events and the Sportbuzz network makes it easy for fans to find deep content and online communities that support their passion for sport.”
Ze’ev Rozov, CEO of Sportingo, commented, “Sportbuzz operates three of the leading online sports content networks. We have focused on user-generated content written by fans, professionally edited, and enhanced with essential statistics and data to provide an enriched social media experience. We are extremely pleased to now be working with market leader Tixdaq on further developing our technology and integrating our content and audience”
Machin added “All over the internet users are generating content whether as a comment, a photo, a video or just a tag. We see real opportunities to combine quality user generated content with our entertainment comparison service. We will be working hard to further execute on our goal of using social media and e-commerce to add real value to fans across many more entertainment passion points.”
Tixdaq Ltd was founded in 2006 by Will Muirhead to address the knowledge gap in the live music industry surrounding the burgeoning secondary ticket market. Tixdaq.com was launched in 2008 to provide a slice of this data to the consumer market as a price comparison service for sports, concert and theatre tickets.
Tixdaq is now the leading provider of ticket resale data to the live entertainment industry and publishes the official UK Live Music Chart in Music Week.
Sportbuzz was founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Tal Boneach and Ze’ev Rozov, both of whom have extensive experience in digital media.
First launched in Sept 2006, Sportingo gained impressive traction, building a base of over 500k unique users. The company acquired award winning UK football blog – Caught Offside - in June 2007. Caught Offside, founded by Chris Toy, provides an independent and irreverent voice for soccer fans and won the sport category in the Ask.com/Metro UK Best of British Blogs 2007 awards. Get Sport was spun out from Sportingo as a standalone site in 2009.
