Leading Provider of Real-Time Database Security and Monitoring Announces Support for Microsoft Forefront “Stirling”

April 17, 2009 - Guardium, the database security company, today announced that it has joined the partner ecosystem supporting Microsoft Forefront Codename “Stirling”. Currently in public beta testing, Forefront “Stirling” is an integrated security suite that delivers comprehensive protection across endpoint, application servers and edge solutions with a central management console for easy administration and enterprise-wide multi product visibility. Forefront “Stirling” enables software, hardware, and services vendors to share and use security event information across the “Stirling” environment and the broader partner ecosystem. As a result, partners can enhance the effectiveness of their security technologies and better protect customer IT environments.

Guardium is the leading provider of database security for heterogeneous DBMS environments. High profile data breaches, coupled with regulatory compliance demands, are driving organisations in all industries to implement tighter controls around their database infrastructures. Guardium’s enterprise security and monitoring platform safeguards critical data by protecting against both insider threats and external attacks such as SQL injection while providing centralised and automated controls that deliver reduced costs and rapid ROI.

Integration Provides Visibility into Database and Application Layer
Guardium’s integration with Forefront “Stirling” provides organisations with enterprise-wide visibility into who is accessing their critical enterprise data, how that data is being used and any security violations such as failed logins and database configuration changes. It allows the sharing of Guardium’s real-time alerts and granular analysis at the database and application layer with security information from other systems participating in the Security Assessment Sharing (SAS) framework.

Guardium’s cross-DBMS solution monitors all SQL transactions without consuming DBMS resources or relying on trace or transaction logs. It uses fine-grained security policies to block unauthorised access by privileged users such as DBAs, while also identifying fraud at the application layer. Guardium provides comprehensive database security assessments and integrates with advanced SQL Server 2008 security features such as encrypted SSL connections.

In a recent case study, Dell described how it implemented the Guardium platform to simplify enterprise security and streamline SOX, PCI and SAS 70 compliance for 300+ database servers distributed across 10 data centres worldwide. In addition, Forrester Research named Guardium “a Leader across the board,” with “dominance and momentum on its side,” with Guardium earning the highest overall scores for Architecture, Current Offering and Corporate Strategy (“The Forrester Wave: Enterprise Database Auditing And Real-Time Protection, Q4 2007” by Noel Yuhanna, October 2007). Guardium is also a past winner of SQL Server Magazine’s Editor’s Choice Awards in both the “Security” and “Auditing and Compliance” categories.

“Microsoft is pleased to work with Guardium to develop interoperability between Forefront ‘Stirling’ and their platform, in order to give our customers more comprehensive and responsive security across the enterprise,” said John Chirapurath, director in the identity and security business group at Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft is committed to collaborating with top industry vendors and providing solutions that help organisations more effectively achieve their business goals. We call this ‘business-ready security’.”

“Enterprises are realising that securing their core database assets is an essential component of their security strategy and must be integrated into their next-generation security management and reporting systems,” said Upesh Patel, vice-president of business development, Guardium. “Guardium’s integration with Forefront “Stirling” provides customers with the assurance that these systems work together to effectively share security information about critical events and activities at the application and database layer.”
