Strength of community grows as members reach over 3,000 in the United Kingdom, 1000 across Benelux, 700 in Germany

London, United Kingdom, April, 28, 2009 โ€“ (ISC)2ยฎ (โ€œISC-squaredโ€), the not-for-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, today announced that they have awarded professional certification to the 10,000th member within the EMEA region. The milestone illustrates significant progress in the (ISC)2 mission to enhance the state of information security through the competency and influence of practicing professionals.

Celebrating its 20th year as a professional certification body within information security, (ISC)2 is concerned with enhancing internationally recognised standards for information security skills. The first international not-for profit body to develop an accepted professional standard for the practice of information security with the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP๏ƒ’), (ISC)2 now provides lifetime career support with a family of credentials and educational offerings covering management, technical and specialist areas, including the recently introduced Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP).

โ€œWhile changes aimed at cutting costs are making organisations more dependent on their connected resources, they are also concerned that their ability to withstand losses is more challenging. In addition to protecting resources and brand value, security professionals are becoming recognised for their ability to protect revenue. (ISC)2 is developing a professional community that allows business and society to take advantage of the technical advances, of the last 25 years and for the future, โ€ says Prof. Howard A. Schmidt, CISSP, vice chair of the Board of Directors for (ISC)2 and president of the Information Security Forum.

The strength of the (ISC)2 membership and recognition for its programmes and services is providing a trusted and sizeable skilled workforce for European organisations in a growing number of countries: the United Kingdom (3165); Netherlands (956); Germany (712); France (466); Switzerland (442); Spain (363); and Sweden (305), along with six other countries in Europe housing more than 200 members. Across the region, (ISC)2 hosts 130 examination sessions annually

โ€œIt is accepted today as essential that companies and society must have confidence in the competency of the people that are accountable for information security risk and data governance. Certifications that are recognised both globally and on a national level set an accepted standard and thereby offer that confidence,โ€ says John Colley, CISSP, Managing Director, (ISC)2 EMEA. โ€œWith a community of 200 or more within a country impacting hiring practice, our growing numbers allow us to develop an influential community within the region that is increasingly demanded by hiring managers, consulted by public bodies, and perhaps most importantly advancing its own development.โ€

As part of this significant community, individual members access a growing and trusted network of peers in the region, a core element of development in the field, given the pace of change in information security. This network, meets regularly online, at educational events, through Web forums and at local networking groups, creating an evolving source of current wisdom.
