Careforce can be rolled out within weeks, which means councils can see almost immediate results and value for money.

expw: consulting has launched Careforce, a web-based case management tool designed to help social workers update, maintain and access child care case records.

Cases of ‘at risk’ children slipping through the child protection net keep occurring despite efforts by the local authorities. In all cases, out of date or disparate information from multiple public sector agencies often held on separate IT systems, has been acknowledged as one of the key barriers to the effective care of the child. Careforce uses the power of cloud computing to hold information securely which can be accessed and updated when and wherever required. It can be deployed at a fraction of the cost of traditional IT or database solutions, and be functional within a matter of weeks.

Careforce is based on the technology platform, which has become a standard for providing dynamic, real-time and cost effective secure access to information for commercial organisations of all sizes. By storing all related information centrally in secure datacentres instead of at multiple locations, data security is assured. Information can be updated or accessed by workers via desktop PC, laptop or other mobile devices. Careforce applies the same principle to give social workers real-time dynamic access to care records whether they are in the field, in the office or on the move, enabling them to do their jobs more efficiently. Careforce is the first tool of its kind.

Mark Richards, CEO at expw: consulting said: “There is a lot of excitement around the benefits for businesses of using web-based applications. We firmly believe that the cloud model can also deliver real benefits to public sector organisations and departments. Careforce can be rolled out within weeks, which means councils can see almost immediate results and value for money. Careforce provides social workers with the data they need to make informed and timely decisions. We are passionate about using our experience gained in the private sector to deliver real benefit to society and for really important causes. We are pleased to be providing a management system that will help reduce the risk of children in need being overlooked”.

Careforce is well suited to the needs of social workers who require easy access to information on all children at risk and a simple means of identifying the most at risk cases. The secure application allows critical information on all aspects of the child’s welfare including their behaviour at school, the results of their health check-ups and information on family members to be viewed by case workers in real time via a single information hub. As a result social services can gain a much more comprehensive and complete view of each case.

One of the most significant advantages of a Careforce-based approach is that of mobile access in the field. The cost advantage of this solution is so significant that even with the additional cost of equipping care workers with mobile devices, the overall cost will remain far lower than conventional ICT and database alternatives. A team of 20 social workers could be set up for a year on Careforce for under £90k and be up and running in weeks not months or years. This initial cost would cover implementation, licences and mobile devices. Ongoing annual running costs including support and licences should not exceed £50k. Many local authorities are already rolling out mobile devices to their workers for the purposes of improving communications.

Careforce was showcased earlier this month to a large number of not-for-profit organisations at the Salesforce Foundation, an event that looks at philanthropy in Cloud Computing. It took place in London prior to’s main cloud computing event, Cloudforce.

expw: consulting is an independent consultancy and an official consulting partner, it is also a member of the Cloud Computing Acceleration Programme (CCAP). expw: delivers business and technology projects in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and is constantly applying its knowledge and experience to new challenges. Consultants at expw: identified that many of the issues public sector departments faced in serving the community were similar to problems encountered by commercial businesses in dealing with their customers. Increasingly, businesses are opting to resolve these issues through the use of web-based software, commonly known as Cloud Computing. Unlike enterprise server-based software, the Cloud model does not involve heavy upfront costs and is rapidly configured and deployed, delivering extremely swift benefits and faster return on investment. expw: reasoned that the public sector would also stand to see huge benefits through adopting the Cloud approach and developed Careforce as testament to this belief.
