The 2000 Guineas, the oldest of five English Classic races takes place this weekend over the famous Rowley Mile at Newmarket, home of British flat racing. It is a Group One race for three year old, colts and fillies, although very few fillies take part, preferring to run in the fillie’s equivalent, the 1000 Guineas, which is run the following day.

Over the years it has produced many fantastic winners, that have included legendary race horses, such as Brigadier Gerrard, Nijinsky, and Dancing Brave. It has also produced many other classic winners and always serves as an excellent form guide particularly for the Epsom Derby.

This year the 2000 Guineas Odds reflect how open it is, with the Brian Meehan trained, Delegator installed as the 7/2 favourite, however there is some speculation suggesting that he will not run unless the ground comes right for him. Behind him in the betting is the Aidan O’Brien pair, Mastercraftsman and Rip Van Winkle.

O’Brien has a short but spectacular record in this race, winning it no less than five times in the last thirteen running’s, including last year, when Henrythenavigator beat long time favourite, New Approach, by a mere nose. Therefore it is always a wise policy to watch his horses very closely if any bets on the race are intended.

The race is on the first day of the Newmarket Guineas Festival, which is sponsored by Bookmakers, Stan James until at least 2010.

The 1000 Guineas takes place the following day over exactly the same course and distance, however this year, that race appears to be dominated in the market by the John Gosden trained, Rainbow View who is unbeaten in four starts as a juvenile.

For flat racing enthusiasts the Online Free Bets are on offer for first time customers in particular with Stan James who are the race sponsors for both races with prize money for both the 1000 and the 2000 Guineas just under £400,000.
