The workshop of sculpted wood furniture designer, Allan Lake, has unveiled the New Yogic Rocker, an eye-catching rocking chair that evokes a world of yogic calm and inner balance.

Drawing on sustainable woodland resources, the rocker is made from laminated walnut, elm and sycamore, creating a subtle psychedelic effect that at once captivates and transports.

The pointed back is reminiscent of a fairytale spire whilst careful attention to balance and ergonomics has created a practical piece if furniture that appears to come alive with a living yogic pose.

Skilled in both traditional and contemporary furniture-making, Allan sculpts, crafts and finishes the rockers by hand, using seamless features such as laminations, lap joints, wood dowels and pegged through tenons to create a magical organic form.

Allan says: “As the New Yogic Rockers are all about human interaction, I spent a lot of time and effort making sure that the chair was strong, correctly balanced and comfortable. At the same time it was important that the design affected users on a spiritual level, with a dynamic, aesthetic appearance that invited touch, exploration and interaction”.

Priced at £2500 each, the New Yogic Rockers can be custom made in a range of woods, designs and sizes as solo pieces, book matched pairs, totally unique pairs or multiples.
