Seven fun-loving kids from across the UK have been selected to join First Choice’s Cool Pool Board of Directors. The lucky seven, were invited to join First Choice’s own Cool Pool expert, Tommy Lynch, this weekend for an all expenses paid trip to test out flumes and provide their ideas on what makes a great pool.

Mathew Callanan, aged 11, from the Wirral near Liverpool, also wowed the judges this weekend to scoop the top holiday prize to Turkey for him and his family. Mathew will be testing out some of the coolest pools and slides around in May half term 2009 at First Choice’s Splash Resort, the Aqua Fantasy Hotel and Spa.

The children were invited to First Choice’s head office in Luton and a nearby pool for their first board meeting. All the advice provided by the children this weekend will be incorporated into a First Choice Splash Resort specification check list, which all hotels with Splash Resort potential will be judged against. There’s also the possibility of their ideas being included in a future First Choice pool!

Mathew said: “I’m so excited I’ve won. In a couple of weeks I’ll be in Turkey testing out all 36 slides at the Aqua Fantasy. Being a Cool Pool Board of Director you get to shoot down slides all day long, it’s a dream a job and so much fun. I had so many ideas I wanted to share with First Choice on what makes a pool great. One day I hope to take over from Tommy Lynch as head of the Cool Pool Board and spend my time travelling around the world to test out slides.”

Cool Pool expert Tommy Lynch who travelled more than 27,000 miles last year to test out pools for First Choice said, ”We understand how important swimming pools are to kids on holiday. In a recent survey we found a staggering 92% of kids said that they were in the pool every single day on holiday. Being such a vital part of their holiday, it’s important to get this right and there’s no one best placed to ask what makes a cool pool than kids. With all the board members help we hope to ensure only the crème de la crème make it into Splash Resort list.”

All the children secured their spots on the Cool Pool Board by entering First Choice’s national competition. The winners sent letters to First Choice explaining why they should be on the Cool Pool Board of Directors and included a picture of what their Cool Pool would look like that were hits with the judges.

The winners were: Lily Hook, aged 11, from Reading; Luke Annetts, aged 9, from Barnsley; Oscar Blakeborough, aged 7, from Bristol; Katie Walsh, aged 9, from Peterborough; Charlotte Rhoades, aged 10, from Nottingham; Alex Campbell, aged 8, from Greenock in Scotland; Mathew Callanan, aged 11, from the Wirral in Liverpool. For all their hard work the children were surprised with a bag of swimming goodies and either an iPod or Nintendo DS.

Pictures and interviews with the winner and Cool Pool Expert Tommy are available on request. For further press information please contact Louise Evans on 01582 645369 or email
