Trouble with expenses?

It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good, and while MPs shrivel in the spotlight of media and public criticism over their expense claims, expense control specialists Software Europe sense a windfall opportunity for UK businesses to cut costs.

Software Europe’s expertise in revealing and rectifying fraudulent, inaccurate or inconsistent expense claims means that their expenses software is attracting attention like never before. And every kind of business or organisation can benefit from better control of expenses.

The company’s tongue-in-cheek postervan campaign was immediately picked up by the Daily Telegraph’s City Diary, after a two-day tour of Westminster when the message emblazoned on the side referred passing MPs to the website:

The campaign was the brainchild of Software Europe MD Neil Everatt: “Politicians should look to the experts in this field for a solution to monitoring expenses cheaply and effectively,” he said. “Our expenses software is specifically designed to pick up on inaccurate, mistaken or fraudulent expense claims.

“It’s a proven way to reduce the cost of claims, whether they come from employees of businesses, NHS Trusts, Shared Services or Blue Chip companies. There’s no reason why we can’t apply the same solution to the House of Commons. We’re just waiting to be asked…

“I expect any MPs who saw it will have been a bit bemused,” said Mr Everatt, 43. “I don’t think they will be embarrassed – it takes quite a lot to embarrass MPs doesn’t it?

“I suppose we are poking fun at the current discomfiture of MPs, but there is a serious point to be made here.

“It’s not just MPs’ expenses that can get out of control. The same kind of excesses exposed in the Press regarding MPs’ claims are being replicated by employees all over the country, and costing businesses and other organisations millions and millions of pounds.

“Our expenses software is a product designed specifically to make any abuses and errors transparently obvious and easily remedied. If the House of Commons were to adopt it, this could go a long way towards restoring public respect for MPs and rebuilding confidence,” said Mr Everatt.

“It’s already doing the job very successfully for organisations including NHS Trusts, Shared Services and Blue Chip companies.”
