Melsele – Belgium – 1 June 2009: Pioneer Europe today unveils its new slim, portable DVD and CD writer that’s big on performance. With a sleek, high-gloss black casing, the eye-catching DVR-XD08 writes at speeds of up to 8X on DVD-R/+R and 6X on Dual/Double Layer (DL) DVDs and 24X to CD. And with DL media offering 8.5GB storage capacity and technologies to reduce power consumption, the easily-connected (through USB 2.0) portable writer is ideal for users of laptops and compact netbook PCs that typically don’t include optical drives.

‘Sales of netbooks in particular are expected to buck the trends and increase markedly during 2009,’ says Says Brendan Sheridan, Product Manager, Pioneer Europe NV, Multimedia Division. ‘Users of these devices and laptops require additional and convenient removable storage to back-up data and archive digital libraries from music to video and images. With DL DVD media offering the capability to write four hours of standard video footage or two hours of high-quality footage, the compact product is the ideal storage partner both for mobile workers and consumers who use their laptops or netbooks primarily at home.’

The DVR-XD08 supports “bus-powered” reading and writing and operates efficiently to extend the battery life of notebooks when not connected to a mains supply*. It also includes a range of proprietary Pioneer technologies to reduce noise, cut vibration and ensure robust operation which advance performance over comparable products. Highlights of these features include:

• A Multi-Effect Liquid Crystal Tilt Compensator: it operates at high speed – even on Dual Layer/Double Layer media types – to ensure precise writing to the disc by automatically compensating for discs that are warped or of uneven thickness
• A highly efficient Optical Pick-Up (OPU) unit
• Performance Adjusting Firmware: this optimises the disc’s rotation speed depending on the user’s application – for example, if watching a movie or listening to music, the disc velocity is reduced keeping background noise to a minimum

Key read/write speeds

The DVR-XD08 supports write speeds of 8X to DVD-R/+R /+RW, 6X to DVD-R DL/+R DL/DVD-RW, 5X to DVD-RAM and 24X to CD-R/RW.

Software Support

The DVR-XD08 comes bundled with a copy of CyberLink’s DVD Suite 6 software to support the creation of professional-looking videos, the burning of audio tracks and the archiving of data to DVD and CD.

*Power options

Many new computers support ‘bus-power’ where the drive is powered from the PC using the USB connection. However, where the user’s PC does not support the bus feature, the drive can be operated using the supplied AC adapter.

Availability

The DVR-XD08 is available now from Pioneer’s distribution network – details of which can be found at: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/products/dvdwriter_distrib...
