Barcelona plays host to the International Dance Festival in Urban Landscapes

Only a month or so remains until "Barcelona plays host to the International Dance Festival in Urban Landscapes", which will see the Spanish city’s inner-city spaces turned into stages for professional performance artists.

Also known as Dies de Danza, the 2009 edition of the event is due to take place between July 10th and 14th, meaning those staying in Barcelona hotels will have plenty of chances to enjoy the action.

The organisers of the festival - which is free to watch - explain that the aim of the celebration is to show off and explore the many different aspects of dance and the medium’s impact on people’s lives.

“It consists of going around different spaces and views of the cities’ architectural sites. Short performances which keep the attention of the public, no matter their age or background [are important]. It is its open quality that Dies De Dansa tries to preserve year after year,” they explain.

Those keen to get involved in the dance, rather than just watch, have the chance to do so as a number of workshops with a number of the troupes, including Styl O’ Styl And Rootlessroot Company.

Places are limited and can be booked by contacting the groups directly.
