Big Brother 2009 has kicked off with a whimper! The new house was unveiled with no furniture and commando style tasks to secure the 15 places for this year’s contestants. Now, however the bathroom, bedrooms and sofas have all been revealed and the fifteen housemates are entrenched for the grand daddy of all reality Tv shows. So who will be triumphant this year?
With a more international flavour than ever before cultural differences may well add a new dimension to the popularity of each character. 23 year old Brazilian Rodrigo endeared himself to the crowd on entering the house and his fresh faced, clean cut charm has continued to place him as a clear favourite in the Big Brother 10 Betting. 18 year old Cairon from the States and cheeky chappie Charlie and naive Indian Sree are Rodrigo’s obvious direct competition but may be tripped up by their sense of the outrageous. Angel, a Russian professional boxer and Siavash seemed well matched on launch night with their peacock egos and style, but her hatred of swearing and his need to be ‘street’ and cool will lead to tension. Watchable for a few weeks, their strength of opinion is sure to let them down in the end.
The two blonde ‘babes’ Sophie and Karly seem unlikely to offer much more than eye candy for the male viewers and whilst Karly is certainly the more feisty of the two it’s hard to imagine that the house will feel it cannot live without them. They too are likely to stay mid way as fantasy for the straight male housemates but have very little chance of winning and will feature in the early rounds of the Big Brother Eviction Odds. Kris, the Russell brand aspirational, seems to have forgotten to bring his personality in with his good looks. Mild mannered he will certainly coast through the summer but will have to come out of his shell if he is to have a chance of winning. The most unlikely character to have shortened with the bookies is Freddy. Known as ‘Halfwit ‘ in the house, hoping to become an MP in the future, he seems to be providing the role of court jester or village idiot. Don’t think he has enough about him to get into the last three but will stay through intrigue amongst the others. Big brother never has much room for strong sensible opinions and so it is inevitable that Sophia will have only a brief sojourn in Epping this year and Marcus whilst perfectly likeable does not have the looks to carry him as far as Kris.
The butterflies are emerging from their chrysalises in the BB garden this summer; with minefields of divisiveness from the production team there are some that will reveal themselves as not quite as fabulous as they first appear. Rodrigos is our Big Brother 10 Tip as his popularity seems to be based on his trustworthiness and transparency he will be a hard act to beat. For those of you looking to have a small flutter on the outcome check out the Irish Bookmaker Paddy Power who are offering a generous Online Free Bet for new customers and a very nice cash back offer should your selection finish second.
