Consumer revenge website MyVoucherCodes is today revealing its sales and user savings figures for 2008. For the period 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2008 highlights include:

- TOTAL SALES VALUE OF £281m IN 2008 - UP FROM £118m IN 2007
- AVERAGE SITE SPEND GOES UP FROM £74.00 in 2007 to £113.00 in 2008

The UK's biggest free to use voucher codes website has revealed its annual results for 2008 that show the site generated £28m of savings for its users as a result of processing 2.5m online purchases in the last 12 months.

Over £281m of sales were registered in 2008, with £55m of these sales coming from December 2008 alone.

The money saving website that is owned outright by 29 year old entrepreneur Mark Pearson increased the amount saved by its users by 187% on 2007's figures and increased sales from the previous year by 138%.

Over 500,000 web-savvy consumers have now signed up to the weekly discount code e-newsletter, with 380,000 signing up in 2008.

The company now has 60 employees across two sites in Rotherham and Scotland and was the subject of two acquisition offers in 2008, both of which were immediately turned down.

The parent company behind MyVoucherCodes, Markco Media, is opening a Head Office in late 2009 on the outskirts of London.

Speaking about the annual results and future trading conditions the Managing Director of MyVoucherCodes, Mark Pearson said,

"Whilst the dreaded recession has affected many businesses MyVoucherCodes has been able to prove that retailers who concentrate on saving consumers money on their online spending can continue to do well."

He continued,

"We remain the largest, most referred to, most frequently updated way for people to save money and although spending in the electrical and gadget sector is down as a result of the recession people looking to make savings on everyday purchases such as online supermarket shopping are reaching unprecedented levels meaning our sales and forecast for 2009 remains very strong."

As expected December 2008 was the prime shopping and sales time for MyVoucherCodes and at its peak, between 8-19th December the site was generating nearly 30 sales every minute.

The company invested a six figure sum in the creation and development of a new behind the scenes administration tool that automates and streamlines the management and tracking of the thousands of discounts, voucher codes, sales and promotional offers sent to the site every week.

The administration tool has not only been a driving force behind the increase in profitability of - the average spend has increased from £74.00 in 2007 to £113.00 in 2008 - but it has also enabled the site to become the first in its sector to announce that it was fully compliant with new industry guidelines that came into force on 1st January 2009.

The site now regularly achieves 7m unique visitors per month and by the 19th of December 2008 the site had already achieved 8m unique visitors for that month alone.

MyVoucherCodes is now over two years old and has featured on the likes of BBC Working Lunch, BBC Breakfast, ITV and every major national UK newspaper.
