OPENAMPLIFY LAUNCHES ONLINE COMMUNITY TO DRIVE NEXT GENERATION DEVELOPMENT OF THE SEMANTIC WEB
Collaboration Around the OpenAmplify Web Service Will Support the Creation of Real-World Applications, Academic research and Blue-Sky Innovation
London: June 17, 2009 – OpenAmplify (www.OpenAmplify.com), a Semantic Web platform, today opened an online community (http://community.OpenAmplify.com) to drive innovation, collaboration and development for the Semantic Web. As the only generally available Web service that can identify sentiment and guidance from text, OpenAmplify is allowing open access to its patented natural language processing technology (NLP).
The OpenAmplify community, now launched in public beta, is a workplace that allows developers, researchers and visionaries to advance the Semantic Web by building applications around the OpenAmplify service. Members can create new projects or participate in ongoing developments, as well as communicate with other members that have similar interests and affinities. OpenAmplify and its users have already developed initial tools applications that harness NLP and Web 3.0 technology, among them:
• Drupal PlugIn – a community-developed module that permits Drupal users to enrich their content with semantic metadata
• TweetyPants.com and tweetSentiments.com – Web destinations that present Twitter users’ sentiments in interesting ways
• ampCloud – tag cloud for blogs and other Web sites to determine writer sentiment around specific subjects, terms and key words (www.clearspring.com/widgets/49c7f2c8c1f18ec8)
“The OpenAmplify Community will support the evolution of the Semantic Web through collaboration around our natural language processing web service. Our goal is to help drive towards a more comprehensive web, based on an understanding of the full range of human interactions in content and conversations,” said Mike Petit, CIO of OpenAmplify. “The community will collaborate to create real-world applications, advance academic and applied research, and foster an innovative culture.”
As an initial promotion, OpenAmplify is running a Firefox Gmail Challenge. Lasting until July 16, 2009, users can win cash prizes and other user benefits to create a Firefox add-on that extends the functionality of Gmail using OpenAmplify. The OpenAmplify Web service complies with W3C standards and is equipped to support Web 3.0, thereby maximizing the potential uses of the technology.
To support the needs of the community, the company is dedicating internal resources with four full-time staffers. OpenAmplify moderates certain content and provides help and service for members.
