Managers in Children’s Services departments will be given an accurate daily summary of their performance against targets with One PRIME Business Intelligence (PRIME), launched today by Capita Children’s Services.

PRIME is the only business intelligence software on the market specifically designed to support Children’s Services. The software brings together data from schools, social services and education teams to provide a single, summary overview of an authority’s progress in terms of outcomes for children.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be one of the first to implement the system. Jane Lodge, data and assessment strategy manager at the council said: “We believe PRIME will allow all our children’s services teams to have more fluent conversations about the needs of children across agencies. We particularly want to look at improving the outcomes of vulnerable children. By providing us with data on how looked after children are doing at school or current truancy rates amongst children who receive free school meals, we will be able to see whether the strategies put in place to support these children are working.

“We will also be able to have more meaningful discussions with health teams about any developing problems so that we can work as a true multi-agency team.”

PRIME will enable local authority staff to create, edit, view and update reports pulled together from all the relevant children’s data sources available. This ensures managers can quickly identify trends, evaluate performance and provide evidence on which to make better decisions.

This information is required to improve the quality and effectiveness of decision making and to deliver the appropriate level of children’s services that the government and the public expect.”

The software will measure authorities against 32 Children’s Services national indicators and other key performance indicators. It can provide advance warning of potential problems by giving snapshot reports on exclusion rates, changing pupil numbers or academic achievement information for minority groups. This information can provide authorities with the evidence they need to make the appropriate interventions to support a child or group of children before a serious problem develops.
