USB device stores user’s sensitive data and eliminates the need to memorise multiple passwords.

Introduced by SCM Microsystems of Germany, the CHIPDRIVE MyKey device enables users to securely store passwords, personal data, internet bookmarks and notations; keeping them confidential and protected from unauthorised access.

The device, small enough to fit into a pocket or attach to a key ring, has been designed to make it safer and easier for people to access internet and information networks.

The MyKey Password Manager makes access to the user’s most visited websites incredibly simple. All stored username/password logins are filled-in automatically by the device, thus streamlining interactions with web-based services. If the user has more than one log-in for the same website, a pop-up window is displayed to ensure that the correct log-in is entered.

In a similar fashion, the Form Fill application can, on request, automatically complete internet based forms for shopping, registration etc. The application allows several profiles to be stored, for example, some users may have a private profile and a business profile.

The Notepad application encrypts and stores personal notations to keep them confidential and protected from unauthorised use.

To operate the device, users simply insert it into a USB drive on the PC and enter their unique PIN to authenticate the transaction. Should the wrong PIN be entered three times, the card will be locked and rendered unusable. The accompanying software enables users to create and edit passwords, profiles, internet bookmarks and notations via the easy-to-use interface.

The encrypted information is held on the MyKey instead of the PC, so once the device is removed from the USB drive, the contents and password data are totally isolated and cannot be read by any other means.

Usman Shah of Security IP, a UK distributor of CHIPDRIVE MyKey comments, “I started to use the MyKey device because my job requires me to remember multiple passwords and log-in information. Now, when I arrive at work in the morning, I insert the USB into my laptop and I am immediately logged in to my regular websites. The device has become my ‘master key’ for passwords and personal information and using MyKey has become a habit. I keep it with my car keys and use it at home as well as at work.”
