A NEW forensic computing tool which slashes the costs of collecting data is set to revolutionise the way law firms handle the discovery process.

SPEKTOR Forensic Discovery allows anyone to collect and preserve information from computers while ensuring the evidential, forensic and
legal acceptability of the results.

Developed by leading forensic computing experts Evidence Talks Ltd, the self-contained system is powerful, portable and easy to use, and removes the need to send highly-paid, highly-skilled analysts to collect evidence - resulting in significant cost savings.

SPEKTOR can quickly retrieve and preserve data from hard drives, memory sticks, digital cameras and other media such as CDs and DVDs for
subsequent examination by forensic analysts.

The powerful, portable forensic triage solution consists of the SPEKTOR Control Pod which is used to forensically wipe, verify and configure reusable SPEKTOR Collector devices. These are then sent to data custodians who follow simple instructions to securely collect and store a copy of their data in a forensically and evidentially sound manner.

SPEKTOR Collectors can quickly preserve images, PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, browser histories, search records, emails and even
internet chat logs without interfering with, or contaminating, the evidence. They can also capture encrypted, password protected and
deleted files and details of previously-attached USB devices, recent file activity, network settings, installed software, online storage
details, auto-form details and much more.

Data on the Collectors is asymmetrically encrypted and cannot be viewed or accessed by unauthorised users.

After collection, The SPEKTOR Control Pod is used to ascertain that the Collector has not been tampered with and generate a summary report.

Evidence Talks managing director Andrew Sheldon says: "Traditionally, legal discovery processes have required forensic experts to visit data custodians to collect and preserve their information. This often entails expensive travel and accommodation costs for staff who could be better utilised performing the analysis rather than the collection.

"After many years of performing digital forensic services for legal clients we recognise that the costs of data collection can often be
disproportionate. We believe that SPEKTOR Forensic Discovery represents a significant advance in the data collection process, reducing costs and timescales without undermining the forensic or legal process."
