Almost 40% of Brits admit to spending more than 24 hours a month searching on the internet for information about themselves, their friends, their lovers and their enemies, by trawling through social networking sites, forums and blogs.

A study of 1,412 Brits from Yasni, the world’s leading people search website, has found that 38% of people spend more than 24 hours per month searching for information about themselves and those around them, wasting an entire day each month snooping online.

The results from found that staggeringly only 14% of the public spend less than 5 hours searching for themselves or others online.

In contrast, when all respondents were asked ‘how many hours per day do you spend searching for yourself and others online?’ the results revealed that more than 70% spent a total of more than 10 hours per month trawling through social networking sites, blogs, forums, Google and Yahoo to find out what presence their friends, lovers, colleagues, enemies and themselves had on the internet.

Yasni has been specifically created to significantly shorten the amount of time individuals spend scrolling through social networking sites and forums for online updates about themselves and those around them.

The site works in such a way that by simply entering the name of the individual in question, all publicly available information will be gathered and displayed within seconds; cutting out the average 60 minutes spent every evening by 1 in 4 members of the British public.

Andy Barr CCO of Yasni had the following to say;

“These results are staggering and although we are very aware of the public’s growing need to spy online, I find it quite unbelievable that people are willing to waste so much time doing so. We have updated the number of websites used within the Yasni search to include YouTube, Wikipedia and flickr; therefore Yasni provides an even more comprehensive search in the same short time frame.

“For our users, a full search like this would only take a few seconds for each person you are looking for; dramatically lower than those who currently use other sites such as a people search device.

“To us it seems simple; would you rather spend the majority of your evening looking online for your friends or perform a quick search and then actually spend quality time with your friends and family instead? The answer seems obvious to us.”
