Gérard Depardieu, his daughter Julie, Isabelle Adjani, Antoine de Caunes and Kristin Scott Thomas have all been shooting films in the region this summer

Film stars are flocking to make movies in the Poitou-Charentes region of southwest France, according to the area’s new online tourism and leisure guide Discover Poitou-Charentes. Leading French actor Gérard Depardieu, his daughter Julie, Isabelle Adjani, Antoine de Caunes and Kristin Scott Thomas have all been shooting films in the region this summer, the website reports.

‘The fact that so many big names in cinema have chosen to film in the Poitou-Charentes this summer shows just what a popular place this beautiful region is with those in the know,’ says Rachel Loos, editor of Discover Poitou-Charentes.

The French star Gérard Depardieu has certainly gone well down with locals and extras while making ‘Mammuth’ with Isabelle Adjani.
Depardieu shot scenes at Angoulême-based meat processing plant firm Sodiporc. And its owner Emmanuel Geoffroy, a former prop forward for SCA, the Angoulême rugby club, apparently admired not just Depardieu’s friendliness and qualities as an actor but also his physical presence. ‘He’d have made a good prop for the SCA,’ said Emmanuel Geoffroy of the burly star, according to Discover Poitou-Charentes.
Meanwhile the director Lola Doillon – daughter of renowned French director Jacques Doillon who has worked with Jane Birkin amongst others – has been making a film called ‘Sous ton emprise’ . This stars Kristin Scott Thomas in a love story with a difference; she plays a woman who falls in love with her attacker. The actor Antoine de Caunes – best-known to British audiences as the presenter of TV show Eurotrash - has been making a film called ‘Brasse Coulée’, which, too, is being filmed in Poitou-Charentes.
