Bodyflight is a really popular choice, the chance for some adrenalin action in a professional environment that doesn't cost the earth

Predictions are already being made for what will be the most popular Christmas presents this festive season, and coming top of many lists are experience gift vouchers.

After a hard year for most of the UK due to job losses and the poor economy many families are looking for exciting experiences to give as gifts to make up for not being able to afford to go on holiday.

"Experiences repeatedly feature highly on Christmas wish lists.” Says Chris Smith, Marketing Director for Virgin Experience Days and exhilaration.
“Individual experiences shape our lives and we all love to talk about new and unique experiences we have tried. Offering the opportunity to try a new experience is the perfect present they'll still be talking about next Christmas.”

lastminute.comand exhilaration are two of the biggest gift experience companies on the market. Their biggest selling experiences include the usual spa day vouchers and driving experiences, but also slightly unusual activities such as Indoor skydiving.

Bodyflight is a really popular choice, the chance for some adrenalin action in a professional environment that doesn't cost the earth." Says Chris Smith.

Indoor skydiving, or ‘Bodyflying’, certainly is one of the more unique experiences on offer. Wind speeds of up to 180mph are generated in a vertical wind tunnel, supporting a person in mid air which allows them to actually fly.

Many people had not even heard of Bodyflying until last year when one centre’s profile was given a massive boost after it was used in a feature film. Bodyflight in Bedfordshire, which is actually the world’s largest indoor skydiving wind tunnel, was used to film scenes for the latest Bond film Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko.

“We have many people buying our gift vouchers for all sorts of recipients” says Manager of Bodyflight Bryony Doughty. “Grandparents buying for their grandchildren, girlfriends buying for boyfriends, people buying for their mates. I think it’s because the experience is exciting and appeals to everyone; Even those people who are hard to buy for.”

One other reason that experience vouchers are tipped to be so popular this year is quite simply their availability. There are many sites such as lastminute.com who sell the vouchers online and of course most attractions sell vouchers direct. So rather than wrestling other shoppers over the last box on an empty shelf the canny present buyer this Christmas will do so from the comfort of their own home.
But could there be an ulterior motive for buying these experience vouchers as presents for loved ones? “I think a lot of people buy indoor skydiving vouchers because they want an excuse to come and try if for themselves” says Doughty.
“I think it’s nice that people want to share experiences with their friends and family, it makes it a more personal Christmas present.”
