21st October 2009 – Utilyx, the energy and carbon specialists, today announces two new services to help customers save thousands of pounds while improving their energy data management ahead of the Carbon Reduction Commitment. The services will be delivered in partnership with PCMG and IMServ as part of Utilyx’ ongoing commitment to provide customers with an energy management service that considers all aspects of the energy mix, from historical bill validation and risk management through to procurement and regulatory compliance.

Commenting on the new partnerships, Chris Bowden, chief executive of Utilyx said: “An increasing number of customers are talking to us about their data management needs, particularly in light of new reporting obligations created by the Carbon Reduction Commitment when the scheme starts in 2010. To meet this demand, we’ve extended our existing bureau service to draw on the intelligence of industry experts like PCMG and IMServ. By working together, we can extend our existing bill validation services to include historical charges and give our customers the information they need to improve energy efficiency, save costs and meet increasingly demanding regulatory obligations in the future.”

As an energy management service provider, Utilyx already provides comprehensive bill checking, reconciliation and validation through its bureau at its Northampton office. The new service delivered with PCMG goes beyond this by looking at a host of historical billing points, including whether a customer’s electricity meter is set up correctly and whether they have been paying the correct distribution charges on a historical basis.

Ian Yates, Director at PCMG said: “We have consistently proved that a significant number of energy bills aren’t in line with customers’ pricing agreements. The Utilyx historical audit, provided by PCMG will perform a forensic analysis of six years worth of invoicing and meter data to recover any overpayments that have been made by a customer. The amounts we recover for a client often run into hundreds of thousands of pounds. Working with Utilyx, we can help their customers chase these savings down and ensure that they are paying in line with their pricing agreement.”

The second new service is delivered in partnership with IMServ and will provide further financial rewards for Utilyx customers who will be able to take advantage of a discounted metering and data collection service. Half-hourly meter data will be available on a “day-plus-one” basis via an online reporting service at Utilyx.com. Customers who don’t have half-hourly meters will also be able to roll-out smart meters to give them access to half-hourly interval data via AMR (Automated Meter Reading). The benefits of prompt access to interval data are well known with the Energy Savings Trust reporting that increased visibility of energy usage via AMR can lead to efficiency savings of 11%. As AMR adoption is also a key Early Action Metric for the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the reasons for full scale roll out are becoming increasingly compelling.

Matt Davis, Carbon & Energy Product Manager from IMServ said: “Record energy prices and a huge increase in ‘green’ legislation means that carbon and energy issues have gone from being a peripheral problem to a business-critical boardroom issue. By working on a ‘day plus one’ basis, Utilyx customers can constantly monitor and record the amount of energy used on a day by day basis, enabling them to identify usage trends. This will help businesses tackle rising energy costs by keeping energy waste to a minimum.”

Bowden concludes: “As we work our way out of the recession, energy is one area where significant cost-savings can be achieved. The alliances that we have made with IMServ and PCMG will help our customers gain more transparency and control over their consumption, track how they are using energy and take the necessary steps to become more energy efficient. This will have a positive impact on their environmental footprint as well as their energy bills, potentially saving them thousands of pounds each year.”
