Neopost’s Remote Workforce in the UK Protected from Malware

Bracknell, UK. Jan 20, 2010 — Webroot, a leading security provider for the consumer, enterprise and SME markets, today announced that it has been chosen by Europe’s leading supplier to mailrooms, Neopost, to provide its award-winning Webroot® Web Security Service and Webroot® Email Security Service .

Neopost is a growing supplier of mailroom, document and logistics solutions to 800,000 customers in 15 countries. With an overwhelming 750,000 spam emails reaching the organisation every month in the UK alone, and an increasing level of its employees accessing the Internet from remote locations, Neopost required a consolidated approach to web and email that was capable of protecting the company’s network from the growing levels of threats.

Keir Bancroft, Technical Services Manager, Neopost, says, “We are now beginning to see the Internet as the main source of security threats. Approximately 50 percent of Neopost’s 700 UK personnel are mobile, and use company laptops to access the Internet via poorly-secured home connections. Webroot® Web Security Service enables us to be much more time-efficient and cost-effective, whilst ensuring maximum security for our roaming users.”

Bancroft also needed a solution that would free up bandwidth for the company. “Neopost benefit immensely from Webroot’s customised end-user policies, which enable the company to block inappropriate web activity at peak times, to prevent a major drain on resources.” Bancroft explains. “Our bandwidth is expensive and finite, and priority needs to be given to business access to the Web. Permitted traffic has amounted to more than 126Gb in one month, and it is clear that without Webroot’s URL and content-based Web filtering, this figure would be significantly larger. Using Webroot has removed the need to upgrade our Internet bandwidth - plus we haven’t had to put investment into new servers, software and additional manpower. In fact, we have seen a reduction in our overall IT administration costs by 30 percent and the user administration by 25 percent.”

Three-quarters of the one million emails Neopost receives every month are spam. By adopting Webroot® Email Security Service, all emails are analysed and filtered off-site, ensuring that only genuine communication reaches Neopost’s servers.

Bancroft says, “We have seen a huge reduction in data reaching the company. Webroot not only invisibly blocks a huge bulk of data, but also filters spam much more effectively as it analyses trends, sources of threats and recognises obfuscating tricks in the cloud. I’m pleased to say that not one item of malware has got through to us with the new solution in place.”

Mark Tickle, Managing Director EMEA, Webroot, said: “Protecting a mobile workforce from Web and email threats is becoming a primary objective for companies of all shapes and sizes. As the number of people working remotely has escalated, so have Web-based threat levels. Hackers and malware-writers develop and disseminate new and evolved versions of threats, based on new or growing trends. Neopost recognised this, and responded accordingly. We are delighted that they chose Webroot.”

Neopost is Europe’s leading supplier of mailing solutions. It has a direct presence in 15 countries, with more than 5,500 employees and annual sales of €918 million in 2008. Its products and services are sold in more than 90 countries, and the Group has become a key player in the markets for mailroom equipment and logistics solutions.

Neopost supplies the most technologically advanced solutions for franking, folding/inserting and addressing as well as logistics management and traceability. Neopost also offers a full range of services, including consultancy, maintenance and financing solutions. Neopost is listed in the A compartment of Euronext Paris.
