When the employment relationship comes to an end – for instance through redundancy – employers can offer the employee a Compromise Agreement to legally end the relationship and prevent the employee bringing any further claims against them. For the document to be valid, the employee must receive independent legal advice. The cost of this legal advice is usually met by the employer.
