CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries, has reported a rise in enquiries at following a particularly cold start to the year.

Reports of breakdowns soared as snow, ice and freezing temperatures hit throughout January and February causing chaos for motorists who encountered a whole host of cold and snow-related problems with their cars.

Cold weather can have extremely detrimental effects on a car battery as low temperatures put extra strain on the battery, meaning that in prolonged cold weather, as experienced at the beginning of 2010, battery problems are rife.

To counteract this, CTEK recommends the use of a smart charger to ensure batteries are in the best condition they can be when cold weather strikes, avoiding Battery Failure and ensuring that vehicles will start first time even in freezing temperatures, saving motorists from shelling out on expensive replacement batteries unnecessarily.

Jarl Uggla, CEO, CTEK said: “Year-round Battery Protection and maintenance is essential to prevent battery problems when cold weather strikes. Low temperatures can put a lot of pressure on a vehicle’s battery and engine as everything has to work harder to get started and warmed up. Using a smart charger means that batteries are properly cared for and many weather-related problems can be avoided saving users money and time.”

CTEK’s Smart Battery Charger products are available through a network of stockists, details of which can be found via the CTEK website at

CTEK supplies chargers to some of the world’s most recognised car and motorcycle manufacturers – including Porsche, Mercedes, Harley Davidson and Bentley.
