AB Internet wins contract to provide unique wireless broadband service to students in properties managed by Lighthouse Property Services

With over 600 properties in its portfolio, Lighthouse Property Services is to be the first lettings firm in the UK to offer its student tenants an innovative wireless broadband service that can be used both at home, and throughout the university city of Lincoln - for free.

Chosen technology partner AB internet had earlier formed a ground-breaking partnership with the Lincoln Municipal community and the University as a pilot for similar rollouts across the UK, providing users with wireless broadband connectivity on their ‘phones and laptops, without the low speed, high cost and coverage restrictions normally associated with other technologies, such as 3G mobile internet.

Tim Clark, managing director of Lighthouse, had witnessed the ‘Wireless Lincoln’ project in action and said: “It’s fantastic that AB Internet is now working exclusively with us on this project.”

Starting with its student tenants, the plan is to now roll out the service, to all student accommodation and then private residential homes. This means that, whether at home, in a café on the High Street, or at college, in addition to enjoying the whole WWW experience, students will be also able to access The University of Lincoln’s digital learning and resource portal, as seamlessly as though they were on the campus itself.

Neil Tucker, sales and marketing director of AB Internet, added: “This is a really exciting development, made reality through AB Internet’s cutting edge network services. Lighthouse tenants will now be able to enjoy the flexibility and freedom that our wireless connectivity brings. We are deploying the very first scalable wireless access networks of their kind. This means AB Internet is operating the very first 'wireless cities' in the UK that have a truly sustainable business model and is now taking this technology and approach out of the city and turning rural broadband 'Not' spots into really 'Hot' spots, transforming the experience of local businesses and residents alike.”

Lighthouse will include AB Internet’s ‘wireless service’, which has no time or download limitations, within its all-inclusive rental packages. Tenants can therefore enjoy ‘hassle-free surfing’ and escape from hot spot WiFi charges, mobile contracts and monthly download and usage fees.
