Elect club asked 980 female members their thoughts - 77% said they would expect for a man to pay on the first date
Hi, we conducted a survey too, email or call for more details
The wedding season is here, breakfast suits are being fitted and hats are being bought, the exciting part for most single souls attending weddings this summer is the eventuality of meeting THE ONE – isn’t that what they say? Or what your mother says anyway!
Should men pay on the first date?
Too many guys out there don’t – they offer to split the bill, they accept for her to fully pay, or worse they suggest it, and occasionally they plan a trip to the bathroom while the bill is on its way. That’s cheap. If you ask a girl out – you pay. There is no need in trying to impress by suggesting the Ritz or Claridges, take her out somewhere you can afford. Women will much more appreciate small efforts such as choosing a venue close to her home/work, getting up subtly to fix the bill, even if its just a walk in the park (no pun intended), getting her an ice cream. ‘Pretty woman’ is over rated, no one expects you to send her a designer dress for that special meal you are taking her to, jetting off to Rome. No. Just a date, where a man is expected to be a man. Equally, taking her out at the nearest petrol station with BLT and diet soda on offer won’t do. You know what you can afford so plan accordingly – a coffee, a drink, dinner, a show, you name it. Being cheap doesn’t work! It doesn’t matter if she is more successful than you, she might pay you back by taking you out or cooking for you unconditionally after that, but there will be no ‘after’ if your first date is cheap.
Stats - Elect club asked 980 female members their thoughts - 77% said they would expect for a man to pay on the first date, 20% were happy to split, 3% thought best to pay themselves. 525 men were asked the same question, 52% thought they should split, 45% would pay and 3% think women should pay
Marie-anne - 'I met a lovely guy at a trendy bar, we went out the week after in a venue that he chose. Not cheap at all! He suggested splitting the bill and I was livid! I wouldnt have chosen that place if I was him, this was a 'treat' to me until he killed the romance. I would have much rather gone to a pub...I didnt see him again after that, uncle scrooge!'
Hayley - 'I chatted with a guy online for months until we met, mad I know, but we got on. When we finally met for our first date he said 'lets go there its happy hour, 2 for 1 until 9pm'. I only lasted a drink, he clearly wasnt into making much effort'
Emma - 'I like to feel desired on a date, and a little gesture goes a long way! I would split the bill though, im fine with that'
