When Freestyle Interactive received a call from Channel 4 & its 4TalentTeam asking to help create a day of Inspirational ‘digital’ workshops for 20 media & advertising students drawn from Universities from all around the Midlands region – the web development agency jumped at the chance to take part.

Run in association with Screen WM the Inspiration workshops are part of a series of joint regional initiatives designed to foster talented youngsters (18 – 24 years) as they look to kick start their careers in media.

Kate Edwards, 4Talent and Learning Coordinator Channel 4 Television Corporation at Channel 4 Talent explained: “4 Talent is all about supporting people build great futures in the media industry. We want to encourage people from different backgrounds and walks of life and different stages of their careers to think about careers in the media.”
“The diversity of media today means we’re not just talking about the high profile on-screen programmes,” continued Kate.
“There’s all the vital behind the scenes areas too such as production, creative and commercial for example, not to mention digital & social media marketing, advertising, press, commissioning, HR, finance & more.”
“The Inspiration initiatives are a flagship programme in our calendar so the companies we select to help us create & deliver workshops for students is really key, which is why we picked Freestyle Interactive to partner us in the first Midlands event. “
The Freestyle session was run by the company’s strategy director Andy Wood , search, social & content specialist Tracy Falke and Delia Goldsby, an online PR specialist. The workshop focused on life & career in the Midlands largest digital agency & some of the hot topics & trends in digital marketing communications around search, social media & online PR.
Andy Wood said: “We had a great time with all the students and the teams from Channel 4 Talent & Screen WM. The feedback has been really positive & the students were a well informed bunch with a really enthusiastic approach. As a result two are joining us for an afternoon of further insight that will hopefully support their knowledge and career ambitions in the media & agency world.”
Student Natasha Roberts said: “I enjoyed the talk a lot and found it a real insight, which surprised me due to my background being music based and therefore less directly involved with digital marketing. However, I left feeling very intrigued to find out even more about the sector and company. The thing that I think inspired me the most was to be able to listen to you all discuss enthusiastically about your work!”
