Southern Australia's most northerly racing event, the Roxby Downs Outback Cup, is taking place near Adelaide next month.

Running from 09:00 until 13:00 local time on August 14th 2010, it is one of the country's more famous race meetings and organisers have promised that those who attend will be able to enjoy a healthy dose of outback hospitality.

"The whole town is in 'cup' mode and the experience is one you'll never forget," it was explained.

Demand for Adelaide hotels is likely to be high in the build-up to the event, as fans travel from all over the country to take in the sporting action at Roxby Downs.

Around 2,000 people typically gather at the track on race day, with some of them coming from as far afield as Alice Springs and Birdsville, which is more than 700km away in neighbouring Queensland.

With fashion and kids entertainment complementing the packed racing card, the Outback Cup has been described by the organisers as un-missable and "a great piece of Aussie culture".

People who are planning to drive to Roxby Downs from their Adelaide city hotels on the day of the event will need to pay A$10 to gain admission, with under-16s allowed to get in for free.
