Athletic holidaymakers may like to combine a trip to Germany with the forthcoming Dusseldorf Ko-Lauf.

This major international road race provides an opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to put on their trainers and embark on a route through the streets of the city.

Named after the Konigsallee, Dusseldorf's famous central boulevard, the run will take place for the 23rd time on Sunday September 5th.

The event offers a number of start times and categories, with participants of different ages grouped together.

First up is a 350-metre 'bambini run' for youngsters beginning at 10:30 local time, with the distances getting longer and the route more demanding as the day goes on.

A 2.2-kilometre run featuring schoolchildren born between 1995 and 1998 takes place at 11:00, while an event for people with disabilities is scheduled to begin at 12:40.

The final race, run over ten kilometres, will get underway at 15:10 and can be entered by all male and female runners born before 1994.

People thinking of booking a Dusseldorf hotel and joining the fun should note the participation fee for most races is €12 (£10), with registration open until August 28th.

Late registration is permitted up to one hour before most events, although runners will be charged an additional fee of €2.
