London, United Kingdom, 22 July 2010 – Geo, a leading provider of high performance networks for demanding data users, today announced its continued focus on delivering world-class services to Manchester businesses, through its connection to IFL’s new Manchester 3 facility.

Geo can now offer private and public sector organisations high speed, low latency solutions direct to their premises, providing either a specific point-to-point solution or connecting the data centre to a fibre network designed to individual specifications. The connectivity can support business drivers such as business continuity and back-up, or enable cost-saving but bandwidth-hungry initiatives such as web conferencing and cloud computing.

Manchester IFL3 is the latest of 108 data centres connected to the 3,000km long Geo network, consisting of 45 public data centres and 63 other. Geo’s network exploits the resilience of the UK’s high pressure gas pipelines and London sewer system by running its cables next to and within, respectively. These unique routes offer more security than traditional shallow trench networks, ensuring that the Geo network experiences 99.9999% availability, strengthening its position as the leading provider of optical fibre data centre networks in the UK.

This network extension follows Geo’s announcement earlier in the year, when it announced a strategic partnership with the Manchester Digital Development Agency to provide a network supporting the roll-out of superfast broadband to homes and businesses across Manchester’s Corridor area in the city centre.

Located opposite Media City, Manchester 3 will deliver 1,000 racks across 22,000 square feet of data centre space, providing a full suite of co-location and data centre services. It boasts state-of-the-art ‘free cooling’ technology to deliver the most environmentally-sound cooling techniques; typically around 20% of the energy consumption of traditional methods.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our Manchester customers connectivity services to such an innovative facility”, commented Chris Smedley, Chief Executive at Geo. “Manchester continues to prove itself as a fast-growing centre of business excellence, and we look forward to offering connectivity services to both our existing clients in the region, as well as welcoming new ones.”

“Being a carrier-neutral data centre provider, it’s essential for us to attract leading network providers such as GEO into our facilities”, said Matthew Edgley, Account Director at IFL. “With Geo’s range of high performance network solutions and reputation for quality of service, this news certainly adds to our own value proposition, offering clients environmentally intelligent, business-class data centre space in Manchester supported by high end, resilient and cost effective networks.”
