Classical music superstar Katherine Jenkins is set to thrill fans with Dusseldorf hotel bookings when she arrives in the city in October.

The Welsh singer is scheduled to perform at the Philipshalle on October 12th, when admirers of her famous voice will be able to hear songs from last year's album Believe and other material from her back catalogue.

One of the few classical performers to cross over and reach the mainstream pop audience, Jenkins is a mezzo soprano who has appeared at major events all over the world.

Her rise to fame began in 2003, when she sang at Westminster Cathedral in London for Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee.

The 30-year-old's albums, which usually contain a mixture of popular songs, hymns and arias, have received many awards and showcase her versatility as a vocalist.

In 2008, the Daily Telegraph reported that Jenkins had signed the biggest classical recording deal in history after she joined Warner Music on a £5.8 million, five-album contract.

She is one of the most successful British soloists ever and has been credited with helping opera to appeal to a wider audience.

Jenkins says on her website: "I do not understand where the idea came from that opera is only for privileged people, I am as happy singing before 70,000 people at the Millennium Stadium [in Cardiff], as I am in front of a few hundred in a small concert hall."

Tickets for the Dusseldorf concert, which is due to get underway at 20:00 local time, are priced between €46.50 and €77.50 (£37.80 and £63.15).

One of the city's main venues of large music events, the Philipshalle is an indoor arena with the capacity to hold 7,500 people.

For more information on this event, visit the Philipshalle website or contact the venue on (+49) 08021 1775 057.
