SEPTEMBER THE MOST POPULAR MONTH FOR DIETERS TO ACHIEVE AN IMPROVED ME, MYSELF AND I

A recent online survey carried out by Tesco Diets (www.tescodiets.com) showed September to be the most popular month for people to start dieting with the top incentives being to look better for themselves and to improve their health. Celebrity looks were shunned in the same poll with the majority of respondents indicating they would not like to look like celebs but rather achieve a more improved version of themselves. Of those that did aspire to look like celebs, our lovely Cheryl Cole and leading man Brad Pitt topped the poll.

For many, September spells the beginning of change and a new start and this certainly rang true in the Tesco Diets poll. When people were asked what is the most likely month for them to start a diet September came first (29%) with January coming a close second (24%). A significant contrast to the idea that January is the most popular time of the year for people to slim down. Not surprisingly no respondents picked the festive month December!

To lose weight successfully we all need motivation to keep going and respondents in the same survey indicated that their main weight loss incentive was to look better for themselves (38%) and for improved health (33%). Very few respondents replied that looking better for the opposite sex, to feel better after a break up or to look well for a specific occasion were primary motivators.

Looking like a celebrity did not prove to be popular in this group! 56% of males and 54% of females said they did not want to look like a celebrity and many were happy just looking like themselves. Of the men that did Brad Pitt (23%) and George Clooney (16%) were the most popular while Simon Cowell surprisingly received 6% of votes! Of the 45% of women that did take inspiration from celebrities Cheryl Cole (16%) topped the pole followed closely by Jennifer Anniston (15%) and curvy Kelly Brook (8%) came third. Britney Spears had only 3 votes out of the 4173 who answered the question!

More survey stats:
