Have you ever visited the gardens at Powis Castle in the throes of its glorious autumn colour? No? Well now is your chance. This autumn there are plenty of special events taking place in the world-famous gardens, to whet your appetite.

Next weekend, on the 2nd-3rd October from 11am-4.30pm, why don’t you join the gardeners for the first ever ‘Greener Garden’ event? If you’re green fingered this is your opportunity to discover the green gardening techniques that the garden team at Powis use and pick up some handy hints for your own gardens. The gardeners will be leading tours during the day, showing visitors the green heart of the garden, including the Nursery and bore hole areas. There will be lots of green craft activities for families to take part in, including bug box making so you can discover the beasties in your own gardens! The Powis Castle ‘Green Group’ which is made up of green-minded staff and volunteers at the property, will have a stand in The Orangery with a very special green rowing machine – see how many kilowatts of energy you can produce just by rowing! Normal admission price applies for entry to the gardens, but there will be no additional cost for the tours or activities.

If you want to discover more about how the gardens are cared for at this time of year, join the gardeners for the ‘Autumn Walk with the Gardeners’ on Thursday 21st October at 10.30am, as they show you what’s in flower and the work they undertake during the autumn months. Normal admission price applies, plus £4 for the tour and booking is essential.

Or may you would like to join the ‘Winter Walk with the Gardeners’. This is your chance to not only enjoy the beautiful autumn colour and discover how the gardens are looked after during the autumn and winter months, but to also enjoy a delicious two course lunch in the restaurant afterwards. The Winter Walks will take place on Friday 5th and Friday 12th November, at 10.30am. Tickets cost £19 and again booking is essential.

The Castle and Garden are open from Thursdays – Mondays until 31st October. From 6th November – 19th December the garden, shop and restaurant will be open at weekends from 11am – 3.30pm. This year for the first time the lower floors of the castle will also be open at weekends, by guided tour, from 20th November – 19th December, from 11am-3pm (last tour at 2.30pm).
