Jo Foreman and Alexis Bridge from Widget

Widget UK Ltd, the consumer electronics distributor, has improved the accuracy of its reporting to vendors, while reducing the reporting burden on its customers, by collecting an increasing amount of stock and sales information through EDI and web services.

Widget’s system then collates this information and delivers it directly to vendors, through a tailor made reporting suite, showing analytics and KPI benchmarking for the entire channel direct.

“Every vendor wants accurate stock and sell through information,” said managing director Jo-Anne Foreman, “so that account managers can plan, retailer by retailer, where there are sales opportunities and where supplementary promotion might be required. Over the last 12 months, Widget has worked hard to develop reporting and analysis tools to take information from customers electronically rather than wait for data to be emailed manually.”

“One of the particular challenges of this project was the variety of computer systems used by our customers, “ added commercial support manager, Alexis Bridge. “We had to integrate data from different EDI packages, and a number of bespoke systems.”

System background

For a company of its size, Widget has always invested heavily in computer systems. The company uses the Maginus distribution system, which helped Widget double turnover in three years while employing only 33% more staff. See case study)

Widget also uses Maginus to provide constantly updated pricing and stock information to customers.

Any trade customer can log into the Widget website, and see how many units Widget holds in stock, and their buy price.

For regular customers, Widget goes further, sending a daily file containing all this information directly to their computer system.

If you are an existing customer of Widget, and you do not have a log on, or you wish to receive a daily stock and price availability file, please contact your account manager.
