£6 million Novell NHS contract will not be renewed according to the Department of Health and local Trusts will be responsible for ensuring their own compliance

York, UK 1st October 2010: Value Added Reseller Trustmarque Solutions today announced plans to help NHS Trusts struggling with Novell renewals following the recent announcement made by the Department of Health, confirming that the NHS Novell Enterprise Wide Agreement (EWA) will not be renewed when the current agreement expires on 30th October 2010.

This is in line with the Government’s overall strategy whereby the vast majority of future investment decisions will be taken at a local level, in accordance with the proposals set out in the white paper ‘Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS’. Angelo Di Ventura, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Trustmarque comments:

"With the recent shift away from Centralised NHS Contracts it is imperative that partners like Trustmarque step-up to the plate to ensure NHS customers are maximising their IT investment to become cost and labour efficient. Trustmarque is taking a lead with this movement to ensure our customers get the most value from their software investment."

Connecting for Health (CfH) has formally served notice to terminate the current Novell framework agreement. Up until this point the agreement had been managed by Trustmarque Solutions.

Under the old Novell framework considerable investment had been made by Connecting for Health around the Identity Management/Password self-service product in particular which has led to widespread adoption across the NHS. Traditional Novell products are still widely used by Trusts with Open Enterprise Server, ZENWorks Configuration Management and Patch Management being the most widely used products.

Novell has issued pricing without any real NHS discount applied to gauge an interest in the local continuation of contracts. New pricing will be issued over the next week based upon a tiered discount. The price structure will be based upon the volume of licences used within each individual NHS Trust’s environment.

However Gareth Redshaw, Trustmarque’s Novell Specialist, is keen to secure a better deal for NHS Trusts looking to continue using Novell:

“We are expecting to see more accurate quotes from Novell over the next few days based upon multiple tiers of discount aligned directly to the size of the end-users Novell investment. Trustmarque intends to drive cost efficiencies in the NHS through maximising our vast footprint across NHS England. Our intention is to drive every Trustmarque NHS customer towards the highest tier of discount.

Trustmarque has designed a new solutions framework to offer much more than just a buying structure but also to offer product roadmap days, spread payment options, special promotions for framework customers and we are even looking at seconding Novell services personnel into the region. This is all designed to help NHS Trusts get more from their Novell investment.

“These newly revised prices are not where the discount ends for all NHS Trusts. As the current contracted partner, Trustmarque is working across the NHS to pool together Novell users via our own regional framework. We are in a unique position to be able to do this, due to the volume of NHS customers that buy through other centrally funded software contracts.

Rather than seeking to achieve the most profitable renewable contract for ourselves, Trustmarque hopes that by maximising this combined buying power in the NHS Trusts, we can help to drive down costs whilst increasing value from a Novell renewal.”
