Expert luxury bed maker Vi-Spring has launched The Lerwick, a sleek, tailored, all-wool bed exclusive to Peter Jones, Sloane Square.
An exciting addition to Vi-Spring’s natural wool bed collection, the sumptuous mattress is upholstered using a mix of the highest quality Platinum Certificated British fleece wool and hand teased real Shetland Isle wool with hand-tied woollen tufts. Divan and headboard are covered in contemporary slate grey, 100 per cent wool fabric, finished with a pipe edge detail.
Paula Nickolds, Buying Director, Home, John Lewis said: “We are delighted to be working with Vi-Spring to champion the Campaign for Wool. Wool products are a key area for John Lewis in homewares and so anything we can do to help, support and preserve this industry has to be a given.”
Priced at £7,300 for a 150cm x 200cm bed, the Lerwick contains more than 2000 individual springs sewn into cotton calico pockets, hand formed into a honeycomb nested unit.
Wool is uniquely suited for mattress upholstery, thanks to a combination of softness, warmth and resilience. A natural insulator, it helps maintain the body’s correct temperature to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. It’s also healthy to sleep on, as wool is a breathable fibre that absorbs moisture away from the body, releasing it into the air for a clean, fresh and hypo-allergenic sleeping surface.
Managing Director of Vi-Spring, Mike Meehan, said: “Our design team strives to source only the very best materials to upholster every bed in the Vi-Spring range. We’re proud to be using one of Britain’s finest natural resources, while supporting a campaign which aims to increase demand for wool and raise its worth to upland farmers.”
As with every Vi-Spring bed, The Lerwick is filled by hand, by Vi-Spring’s master craftsmen, using more British fleece wool than any other bed maker.
Vi-Spring believes that sleeping on the right bed can be a truly life-changing experience. All Vi-Spring mattresses are handmade to order in the company’s workshops in Devon. It’s an uncompromising approach, but because sleep is such a deeply personal part of life, it’s really the only way to ensure that every bed is not only supremely comfortable, but also fits its owner like a glove.
Founded in 1901, Vi-Spring was the first bed maker to produce an interior sprung mattress using a system of individually pocketed springs that changed the way beds were made.
Vi-Spring has never wavered from its original philosophy of using the best craftsmanship and quality materials to produce the finest beds in the world, and this is why Vi-Spring beds have been the only choice for anyone who demands the best for over one hundred years.

Melin Tregwynt heralds a new spirit in Welsh design with exclusive blankets, throws and cushions, furniture, accessories and clothing that combine authentic Welsh tradition with innovative and modern design.
Melin Tregwynt is a delightful white washed wool mill to be found in a remote wooded valley on the Pembrokeshire coast. The mill has been on this site since the 17th century, when local farmers would bring their fleeces to be spun into yarn and woven into fine Welsh wool blankets.
Today traditional Welsh designs are transformed with beautiful colour and innovative design. Simple in spirit, satisfying in quality and timeless in design our Welsh woolens’ can be found in hip hotels and design-led stores worldwide, and on television and film.
Husband and wife team Dick and Pauline Beijen bought their flocks of sheep during the summer of 2008 as the first step into their idea to create high quality, all natural woollen duvets. After many months of development work, the latter part of which was filmed by Channel 4 with Monty Don in his series ‘My Dream Farm’, Devon Duvets was born.
The concept of using British wool in duvets and pillows was largely unthought of at that time and the Beijen’s are delighted that there is now a resurgence of interest in this wonderful, abundant British material.
All Devon Duvets products are handcrafted by skilled seamstresses in Devon using all British wool which is cleaned and processed locally. Devon Duvets is committed to creating totally unique and natural pillows and duvets, which are sustainable and have a low carbon footprint. Dick and Pauline are very proud to produce high quality, value for money British woollen products from field to customer.
